World Bank changes tack on Manila road bids

The World Bank has backed away from an innovative anti-corruption plan to cap tenders for some of the road projects it is helping to fund in the Philippines.

The lender announced on Wednesday that its directors had approved a stalled $232m (€150m, £119m) loan for road building after the south-east Asian country agreed to “comprehensive anti-corruption measures”.
